The Master of Education (M.Ed) programme is a rigorous and comprehensive postgraduate qualification designed for educators, administrators, and professionals committed to advancing their knowledge, skills, and leadership capabilities within the diverse landscape of education. Semester 1


Semester 1: Core Educational Foundations and Research Methods

This semester lays the essential theoretical and methodological groundwork, providing students with a robust understanding of fundamental educational principles and research practices.

M.Ed. 501: Educational Research Methods and Design

This module provides a comprehensive introduction to quantitative, qualitative, and mixed-methods research approaches in education. Students will learn how to formulate research questions, design studies, collect and analyse data, and interpret findings ethically and effectively. It is foundational for the dissertation.

M.Ed. 502: Theories of Learning, Cognition, and Instruction

Explores major theories of learning and human cognition, examining their implications for instructional design, teaching strategies, and student motivation across various educational levels and contexts.

M.Ed. 503: Curriculum Theory and Development

Focuses on the theoretical underpinnings of curriculum design, development, and evaluation. Students will critically examine different curriculum models, societal influences on curriculum, and practical approaches to creating effective learning experiences.

M.Ed. 504: Leadership and Organisational Management in Education

This module investigates principles and practices of effective leadership and management within educational organisations. Topics include strategic planning, change management, human resource management, and fostering a positive organisational culture in schools and universities.

M.Ed. 505: Contemporary Issues and Challenges in Education

Examines current debates, trends, and challenges facing education globally and regionally. Topics may include educational technology, equity and inclusion, globalisation’s impact on education, and the future of learning.

Semester 2

Semester 2: Advanced Educational Studies and Dissertation

Building on the first semester’s foundation, this semester delves into advanced specialisations and culminates in the independent research required for the dissertation.

M.Ed. 506: Educational Policy and Reform

A critical analysis of educational policy-making processes, implementation, and evaluation. This module examines how policy shapes educational systems, addressing issues such as funding, governance, accountability, and the role of stakeholders in reform initiatives.

M.Ed. 507: Assessment, Evaluation, and Accountability in Education

Explores various approaches to assessment for learning, as learning, and of learning. It covers test construction, psychometrics, programme evaluation, and the impact of accountability frameworks on educational practice and student outcomes.

M.Ed. 508: Comparative Education Systems and Global Best Practices

This module provides a comparative study of educational systems and policies across different countries and regions. Students will analyse the historical, cultural, social, and economic factors that influence educational practices globally, identifying lessons and transferable models.

M.Ed. 509: Dissertation/Applied Research Project

This is the capstone experience of the Master of Education programme. Under the guidance of a faculty supervisor, students will undertake an independent, in-depth research project on a topic of their choice within the field of education. This involves identifying a research problem, conducting a literature review, designing and executing a study (or conducting extensive secondary data analysis), analysing findings, and presenting a scholarly thesis or an applied project report. This module demonstrates the student’s ability to contribute new knowledge or innovative solutions to educational challenges.

Capstone Project

A practical project where students apply their learning to real-world healthcare challenges, culminating in a comprehensive report and presentation.
